Article: Induction chemotherapy plus radiation compared with surgery plus radiation in patients with advanced laryngeal cancer.
- Patients with T3/T4 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
- 3 groups: 1) Total Laryngectomy (TL)+ Adjuvant Radiation Therapy (RT) [current gold standard] versus 2) Induction Chemotherapy with cisplatin/fluorouracil followed by RT (aka ChemoRT)
- ChemoRT can have similar survival as TL+RT, and 64% of patients will have laryngeal preservation
- The remaining ChemoRT patients underwent salvage laryngectomy
